Repelling The Ocean / Preventing the Relatives from Fighting. The Abhaya Mudra is a gesture of fearlessness or blessing representing protection, peace, benevolence, and dispelling of fear.
Buddha statues of this mudra are in a sitting posture, standing and walking posture. The Abhaya Mudra usually has a raised right hand, but can also be found with the left hand raised – or even with both hands as per this statue.
This Buddha statue is exquisitely carved, painted, and bejweled by an artisan schooled by the renowned Thai master craftsman Khun Praphan Kantiyat.
Khun Praphan started carving Buddha statues over 40 years ago. This statue’s meticulous and precise ornamental detail results from his research and historical knowledge of ancient Buddha carvings. The sculptures replicate original antique statues exhibited in museums and temples of Southeast Asia.
This statue is a handmade replica and will differ slightly from the original antique Buddha. It is exported with a Permit under a License provided by The Thailand Fine Arts Department.
Statues are carved from Acacia (Monkey) wood. Before finishing, partially carved statues undergo hot room treatment for seven days to rid the wood of borers and insects.
