The Punan were formally a Kalimantan nomadic indigenous people of the forests until the late 1940’s – and now living in Sarawak. There is a small community in Brunei of which half have been converted superficially to Islam.
They are one of the last peoples remaining as hunters and gatherers – and noted for their practice of ‘molong’ which means never taking more than necessary. Most Punan were nomadic hunter gatherers until post World War 2 settled many of them in the Ulu-Baram and Limbang districts of Kalimantan. Since they practice ‘molong’, they pose little strain on the forest which supplies them with all they need.
Considering the age of this nice artefact it is in very good condition.
