The Nirvana Reclining Buddha depicts the Buddha in the last moments of life on earth before dying one last time before entering Nirvana. The Buddha having gained enlightenment in his lifetime was therefore able to escape the endless cycle of birth, death, re-birth (samsara) and able to enter Nirvana.
This Buddha statue is exquisitely carved, painted, and bejeweled by an artisan schooled by the renowned Thai master craftsman Khun Praphan Kantiyat.
Khun Praphan started carving Buddha statues over 40 years ago. This statue’s meticulous and precise ornamental detail results from his research and historical knowledge of ancient Buddha carvings. The sculptures replicate original antique statues exhibited in museums and temples of Southeast Asia.
The statue is a handmade replica and will differ slightly from the original antique Buddha. It is exported with a Permit under a License provided by The Thailand Fine Arts Department.
Statues are carved from Acacia (Monkey) wood. Before finishing, partially carved statues undergo hot room treatment for seven days to rid the wood of borers and insects.
