Description
Vintage Buddha Bhaisajyagu Vajrapani Thangka Hand Painted Cotton Canvas Painting
Region: Tibet
Mid 20th Century – Tibet.
Size : 64 cm X 43 cm
This Thangka depicts Buddha Bhaisajyagu Vajrapani sitting cross-legged on a lotus throne. He is known as the master of remedies or Medicine Buddha.
The listed price of only 99 UK pounds does not do justice to the months it took the skilled artist to complete this highly detailed painting. A single flower can take 3 to 7 days to complete!
The most distinctive feature of Bhaisajyaguru is his deep blue colour tone of the lapis lazuli. This beautiful stone symbolises rarity and purity – and said to have curative or strengthening effect to those who wear it.
In his right hand he holds a myrobalan branch, an important compound of several Tibetan medicines. In his left hand a bowl containing three forms of a nectar to cure disease, counteract ageing and illuminate the mind. Meditating in front of the Medicine Buddha Thangka is said to help to alleviate physical and mental stress, increase healing powers in oneself and als overcome spiritual sickness.
Very good condition considering the age of this painting.
